Spanish Superstar Álvaro Morata On The Edge Of Juventus Comeback As Luis Suárez Is Set To Join Atlético Madrid

With only two weeks left to deadline day, the summer transfer market window for Serie A – Italy’s top-flight soccer league – is definitely getting serious.

According to Sky Sport Italy, Atlético Madrid striker Álvaro Morata is about to return to Juventus on a loan deal.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid striker enjoyed a previous stint at Juventus between 2014 and 2016, where he collected 93 caps among all competitions, scoring 31 goals and serving 11 assists.

The Spanish international is expected to arrive in Torino already on Monday evening, where he will undergo his medical checks before signing his new contract, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported.

The deal will see Juventus pay a sum in the region of $7,5 million for the one-season loan – with an option to extend the loan for another season at the same price.

Should the Italian giant decide to keep Morata permanently, the price tag for future right to purchase him at the end of the first year of the loan will be $47 million ($37 million should the loan be extended for a second year).

The move has been possible only because Atlético Madrid is reportedly about to sign Barcelona striker Luis Suárez as a replacement, with the Uruguayan agreeing personal terms with the Madrid club.

According to Catalunya radio, the former Liverpool star came to an agreement to terminate his contract with the Catalan giants- which still has a year left to run – to join Argentinian coach Diego Simeone.

Suárez – who netted 197 goals across 283 appearances for Barcelona since joining the club from Liverpool in the summer of 2014 – will reportedly sign a two-year contract, earning around $7,5 million per season.

The two combined transfers are set to become two of the most remarkable deals of the summer.

Morata’s signing is quite surprising, considering that until last week the bianconeri were linked with AS Roma striker Edin Džeko.

The giallorossi captain was about to head to Juventus for reportedly $18 million to substitute Gonzalo Higuaín, after Juventus announced the mutual termination of his contract on September 9.

However, in the last few days there have been some concerns about the positive outcome of deal.

Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport revealed that despite Juventus coming to terms with AS Roma, the giallorossi could not give the Bosnian international the green light to complete the transfer.

The reason behind the stalemate is the endless negotiation between SSC Napoli and Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik – AS Roma’s main target to replace Džeko – Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

Milik’s inability to agree on personal terms of his exit from SSC Napoli forced Juventus Chief Football Officer Fabio Paratici to unveil a contingency plan: Álvaro Morata.

It is yet to be seen if the Spaniard – who rejoins Juventus’ coach and former teammate Andrea Pirlo – will live up to the expectations.

After soccer resumed in June, Morata only started six of 12 matches for Atletico Madrid and was a substitute in the Champions League defeat to RB Leipzig.

Only time will tell if the whopping $63,5 million price tag will be worth it, since the striker never managed to score more than 15 goals in a competitive season between English Premier League, Spanish La Liga and Italian Serie A.
