Terence Crawford Vs. Kell Brook: Odds, Purses, Records, Prediction

Kell Brook made waves earlier this week when he said he’d force Terence Crawford to quit on his stool this Saturday night when they tangle on ESPN. Crawford mostly shrugged that prediction off, and the odds say there’s little chance Brook’s prediction will come true. Instead, we’ll probably see another dominating performance by Crawford, the No. 2 fighter on my pound-for-pound list. Here’s what you need to know about the Terence Crawford vs. Kell Brook fight.

For Crawford, this is almost a placeholder fight while he waits (seemingly forever) for more meaningful opponents. The No. 1 man on the list is Errol Spence. But Spence is with Premier Boxing Champions and Crawford is with Top Rank, and since those two entities don’t get along all that well, a Spence-Crawford showdown has yet to occur. Errol Spence told me last week that if he can’t get Crawford in the ring by next year, it might not ever happen.

Crawford agreed that if it’s not made in 2021, the intriguing matchup could fall by the wayside. “Yeah, it might. It might,” Crawford said. “I never really felt like I needed Errol Spence for my legacy or my career. I’ve accomplished so much in the sport of boxing, I don’t really need him. Yes, I need him for the legacy of the welterweight division and for becoming undisputed champion in two different weight classes. If that doesn’t happen, it doesn’t hurt my legacy. It hurts the legacy of the welterweight division.”

Crawford already has a welterweight title, a belt that Brook will try to lift from him on Saturday. But Spence has two of the 147-pound titles (Manny Pacquiao has the fourth one), and Crawford, formerly the undisputed champion at 140 pounds, can’t be considered the best in the division if he can’t prove it against Spence.

Brook, though, stands in his way. And like he mentioned earlier, he’s confident that he’ll pull off the massive upset.

“I’ve never been ready for a fight like this before,” Brook said. “Looking forward to whatever Terence brings because I can match him. I’m ready for a war … He’s going to have a rude awakening, I’ll tell you that.”

Either way, it’s going to be intense.

Here’s more info on the Terence Crawford vs. Kell Brook showdown.

Terence Crawford Vs. Kell Brook odds

The odds for this bout have remained steady with Crawford at -1400 (wager $1,400 to win $100) and Brook at +800 (bet $100 and walk away with an $800 payday). Unless you think Brook has a real chance to pull off the upset, it’s probably not worth betting either money line. Instead, you could get a decent value with wagering on Crawford to win by KO/TKO at -225.

If you were looking for a fun parlay for this weekend’s action of boxing (and this is only my opinion and not a recommendation), I might take Crawford by KO/TKO at -225, Joshua Franco’s money line vs. Andrew Moloney at -200 and Katie Taylor to beat Miriam Gutierrez by decision at -125. That would pay you $290 on a $100 wager. Not great, but not horrible either.

Terence Crawford Vs. Kell Brook purses

According to The Athletic, Crawford will make more than his minimum guarantee of $3.5 million for the Brook fight. Instead, he’ll be paid a $4 million purse, while Brook will take in $2 million.

That’s the same figure Crawford was paid for his last fight vs. Egidijus Kavaliauskas but less than the $5.5 million he earned for his sixth-round stoppage of Amir Khan in 2019.

Terence Crawford Vs. Kell Brook records

Although he’s 36-0 with 27 KOs, Crawford is still looking for his career-defining fight. His best win came against Viktor Postol, but that was four years ago. His best victory at welterweight is (maybe?) Jeff Horn in 2018. Yes, four of his last five opponents had undefeated records, but Crawford needs one of those big-time 50-50 matchups to really make his career sing. It’s doubtful Brook can provide that for him.

Yes, Brook (39-2, 27 KOs) is well past his prime, and yes, he’s had his face broken by both Gennadiy Golovkin AND Errol Spence in the past four years. But he also has an impressive victory against Shawn Porter when he won his welterweight title. Besides the fact Brook is 34 and is likely nearing retirement, he’s also just fought one of his last five fights at the welterweight limit. So, Brook will have to melt off seven pounds from junior middleweight, and that’s not always easy for an older fighter to accomplish.

Terence Crawford Vs. Kell Brook prediction

I can see Brook performing well and perhaps giving Crawford some problems in the first few rounds. That’s basically what Brook managed against Spence as well. But Crawford likely needs to look spectacular if he wants to put more pressure on Spence and PBC to make a fight between the two. So, I can see Crawford stopping Brook in the middle rounds. Say, Crawford by stoppage in the seventh.
