‘The Velvet Underground’ Documentary Coming To Apple

Apple has landed the rights to the The Velvet Underground, a new feature documentary from Academy Award-nominated director Todd Haynes and Polygram Entertainment.

Haynes (Carol, Far From Heaven) will direct and produce the Apple original about the revered rock band of the 1960s.

Founding member John Cale described the band’s creative ethos as “how to be elegant and how to be brutal.” The film will feature recordings, in-depth interviews and never before seen performances from the band described as “a cultural touchstone while simultaneously representing a range of contradictions.”

Polygram Entertainment produces the movie in association with Federal Films, a Motto Pictures and Killer Films production. Christine Vachon, Julie Goldman, Christopher Clements, Carolyn Hepburn and David Blackman produce.

The doc will join Apple original unscripted feature films including the critically acclaimed Fireball: Visitors From Darker Worlds from award-winning directors Werner Herzog and Clive Oppenheimer and the five-time Emmy Award nominated Beastie Boys Story.
