These Have Been Netflix’s 10 Most Popular Shows This Summer

When Netflix
NFLX
introduced its brand new Top 10 feature earlier this year, we finally gained some insight into which shows were performing the best (and which ones were bombing) on the streaming platform. Since just about every about every streaming entity keeps their numbers under wraps, the Top 10 became our first real glimpse into the inner-workings of a major streamer. We now have an idea of which shows Netflix goes after and which shows it chooses to renew.

And with summer well underway, we’re seeing which shows have dominated the season so far. The summer months take place between June 20 and September 20. So with the season about half over, I thought it’d be fun to look back and see which shows have dominated the Top 10 the most.

So here they are—the ten most popular shows on Netflix (so far) this summer season.

Note: you can read more about the Netflix point system here.

10. The Office – 98 points

The Office has had a strange run on Netflix this year. Over the course of 2020, the beloved series has earned 219 points—the 11th-most of any show. Yet, The Office has never been dominant. The show mostly coasts on the lower end of the daily Top 10 lists, and has yet to rank on a monthly top ten list. But longevity is The Office’s friend, as the show has remained consistently popular enough to always be in the mix. And because of that, it’s officially the tenth-most popular show of this summer season.

9. Shameless – 111 points

Shameless has been on an absolute tear since it premiered on July 26, spending its first five days in first place on the Top 10 and then six more days in second place. In just 12 days, Shameless has almost become one of the 25 most popular shows of the Top 10 era.

8. Avatar: The Last Airbender – 117 points

Just about no show’s Netflix run has been more impressive than Avatar: The Last Airbender’s. The animated show ranked third in both May and June, and is currently the fourth-most-popular show on Netflix this year. It is one of the only non-Netflix Originals to rank this highly. Plus, recently Avatar broke the record for consecutive days on the Top 10 list with 61. All around, the cult animated show has enjoyed a Netflix run like no other.

7. Warrior Nun – 137 points

At no point this summer did Warrior Nun hold the #1 position on the Top 10. But thanks to an eight-day streak in second place and 18 Top 10 appearances in the month of July, Warrior Nun has remained one of the most viral entities on Netflix this season. On the 2020 rankings, Warrior Nun comes in at 21st place.

6. The Order – 140 points

The Order really got the short end of the stick this past June. The show premiered at the same time as Floor is Lava—a show that would go on to absolutely dominate the Top 10. Because of that, The Order spent 13 consecutive days in the #2 position. In total, the show made 22 Top 10 appearances, and finally exited the list on July 9. On the 2020 rankings, The Order ranks 16th.

5. Down to Earth with Zac Efron – 145 points

Zac Efron’s new Netflix show really lived up to the hype last month, making 20 appearances on the Top 10 (two of which were spent in first place). Down to Earth was Netflix’s first big stab at a travel show, and the results really seem to have paid off: the show ranked second in the month of July and currently ranks 19th on the 2020 list.

4. The Last Dance – 148 points

The Last Dance has yet to reach the #1 position on the Top 10—yet, the show has rarely ranked outside the top three on the daily list. The Chicago Bulls docu-series has consistently remained a Top 10 force, ranking fifth in the month of July and (as of now) third in the month of August.

3. Cursed – 149 points

In July, Cursed became the 11th show to spend at least six consecutive days in the #1 position on the Top 10. Despite premiering so late in the month (July 17), the show still managed 129 points in July and ranked fourth for the month. On the 2020 rankings, Cursed currently sits in 17th place.

2. Floor is Lava – 193 points

Floor is Lava is your proof that Netflix will be pursuing more game shows very soon. The viral hit sat in first for 12 straight days. At the time in June, that was something only two other shows had done: Tiger King and 13 Reasons Why. That run allowed Floor is Lava to near the top ten for 2020 (currently the show sits in 12th place with 203 points).

1. Unsolved Mysteries – 196 points

You know how Floor is Lava was the third show to spend 12 straight days in first place? Well, Unsolved Mysteries was the fourth show to complete that task. The revived crime show easily won the month of July, earning all 196 of its points in 27 days. On the 2020 rankings, Unsolved Mysteries ranks in 13th place.
