WWE Clash Of Champions 2020 Results: Drew McIntyre Survives Biggest Threat To Title Run In Ambulance Match

Drew McIntyre retained the WWE Championship in a very physical Ambulance Match, beating Randy Orton for the second consecutive pay-per-view at Clash of Champions.

McIntyre has been the exception to the rule of WWE’s failure to promote new stars. The first-time WWE champion defeated Brock Lesnar clean in the main event of WrestleMania 37, and WWE has gone to tremendous lengths to protect McIntyre as a credible, dominant champion.

McIntyre has seldom been laid out throughout his run, and even when he was sent to the hospital by Randy Orton on the August 24 broadcast of Raw, it was only after three punts—an Orton staple known to take wrestlers out of commission after only being performed once.

Still, WWE’s reliance on the past and the surge of Orton has been the biggest threat to McIntyre’s world championship run both in and out of storyline. The Bruce Prichard era of Raw has featured several familiar faces in prominent positions, and while McIntyre defeated Orton at SummerSlam, there continued to be lingering doubt about the future of his WWE Championship reign with Orton emerging as its top challenger.

The Ambulance Match stipulation did little to quell these sentiments, with the unique match seeming to serve as a way for WWE to possibly take title off McIntyre without actually beating him.

But after a back-and-forth match against one of WWE’s greatest stars of all time, Drew McIntyre continued his winning ways as the world champion does his best to keep Raw together amid tumultuous times in WWE.
