WWE Hell In A Cell 2020 Results: Clumsy Rivalry Ends In Sasha Banks Win

Sasha Banks defeated Bayley, ending her 380-day reign as SmackDown Women’s champion at WWE Hell in a Cell 2020 in an excellent match.

Bayley and Sasha Banks’ blowoff match was two years in the making, as WWE has been hot-and-cold with their split amid an extremely disorganized administration.

The wheels were initially set in motion during WrestleMania season in 2018 as Sasha Banks betrayed Bayley during Elimination Chamber 2018. Bayley went on to exact revenge at WrestleMania 34, where she eliminated Sasha Banks in the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal before being eliminated herself by Naomi after believing she had won.

Longstanding tensions continued to boiled over into the summer of 2018. On the June 26, 2018 broadcast of Raw, Bayley pounced on Banks and attacked her tag team partner shortly after a victory over The Riott Squad in what appeared to be a Bayley heel turn. WWE’s textbook disconnect with its own fanbase reared its ugly head as the San Diego crowd cheered Bayley in unison during the vicious assault.

The tense rivalry quickly pivoted to a series of couples counseling sessions amid the return of Dr. Shelby, who helped Daniel Bryan and Kane through their issues as Team Hell No back in 2012.

Over the next few years following their reconciliation, and Banks’ sabbatical in 2019, Bayley and Sasha Banks were allies as both babyfaces and heels. A successful run as a main event act during the pandemic era culminated in a second, more definitive, split. On the September 4, 2020 broadcast of Friday Night SmackDown, Bayley brutally attacked Sasha Banks after the two failed to regain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships against Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler.

WWE had a longwinded journey to an otherwise satisfying payoff as Sasha Banks prevailed in a very strong Hell in a Cell match. With both rosters recently shaken up via the WWE Draft, now is a perfect time for these two frenemies to finally move on.
