WWE NXT Results: Winners, News And Notes On October 7, 2020

WWE NXT featured fallout from NXT TakeOver 31 as champion Finn Balor was revealed to have a fractured jaw while Drake Maverick and a reluctant Killian Dain made their debut as an official tag team.

The main event featured the returning Ember Moon and Rhea Ripley vs. Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzales.

Last week’s broadcast of WWE NXT drew 732,000 viewers compared to 866,000 or AEW.

Tommaso Ciampa def. KUSHIDA by Disqualification

Tommaso Ciampa feels like the odd man out in NXT for the first time since he became a singles star.

Just when I was thinking NXT was going to go all the way with KUSHIDA by having him beat one of their biggest stars, they Keith Lee’d him and had him lose by disqualification.

Velveteen Dream is being booked like a chicken heel and something tells me is textbook punishment booking from WWE.

Ember Moon Appears Live, Brawls Alongside Rhea Ripley with Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzales

Ember Moon seemed so legitimately happy to be back in NXT, and seeing her face-to-face with Io Shirai was just as awesome.

Steven Regal was saddled with the Adam Pearce role of helplessly breaking up fights and barking out wrestling matches.

Drake and Killian def. Ever-Rise

As excited as Drake Maverick was about his new theme song with Killian Dain, I couldn’t wait to hear it and I was not disappointed. It was essentially the same generic, but upbeat, music you hear in a tampon commercial.

Ever-Rise solidified themselves as the heels in this match when one of them called Killian Dain a “fat bozo.”

This will be the best act in NXT in short order.

Austin Theory def. Leon Ruff; Dexter Lumis def. Austin Theory

Given how badly Austin Theory been booked lately, I fully expected this to be Leon Ruff’s first win in NXT, so when he got a nearfall rollup out of the gates, I fell for it hook, line and sinker.

Austin Theory claimed he was the future of NXT, and given how much he’s lost, he’s right because that’s exactly how WWE treats most of its future.

Austin Theory finally picked up a win in NXT, only for it to be negated by a loss to Dexter Lumis.

Ridge Holland def. Danny Burch

Ridge Holland is such a monster, but the fact that he drives a Mercedes hurts his mystique a bit.

As bad as WWE is at pushing young stars, I have a great feeling about Ridge Holland’s trajectory in NXT.

Shotzi Blackheart def. Xia Li

Xia Li was so happy-go-lucky and upbeat entering the ring, I was almost willing to believe she wouldn’t be throwing a temper tantrum after an inevitable loss to the recently pushed host of Halloween Havoc.

Xia Li is easily a top-five striker in WWE.

After yet another scare last week, Shotzi Blackheart’s high spots are that much more suspenseful.

Xia Li did not attack Shotzi Blackheart after her latest loss, instead she was offered paperwork by Boa. This bodes well for her.

Ember Moon and Rhea Ripley def. Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzales

Ember Moon was a tad rusty coming out of the blocks, but she really tested out that achilles throughout and it seems to be 100% healed.

Raquel Gonzales and Ember Moon are slowly developing into quite the tag team.

Rhea Ripley had Raquel Gonzales in a fireman’s carry and was on her way to a neat-looking spot where they tumbled over the table, but Vic Joseph was unfortunately backed into the shot.

New Ember Moon is going to be a lot of fun in NXT.
