Billie Eilish Joins Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson And Taylor Swift With Her Latest Chart Feat

On last week’s Hot 100, Billie Eilish debuted her new single “Therefore I Am” at No. 94. That’s a fairly low position for someone as massively popular as the teen dark-pop singer is, but it was only the beginning for the cut. This frame, the tune shoots up the tally, and in doing so, Eilish earns a rare spot in the history books and joins a select group of some of the most successful pop stars of all time.

This time around, “Therefore I Am” rockets from No. 94 to No. 2 on the latest edition of the Hot 100. Jumping 92 spots in one turn is extremely rare, and it’s a large enough gain to help Eilish nab the honor of the fourth-largest leap up the ranking of all time.

In fact, only six songs in history have surged by at least 90 spots at once. That isn’t terribly surprising, considering a very specific number of factors must be in play in order for a song to even have a shot at doing so, as opposed to simply enjoying a lofty start on the Hot 100 (which is no longer rare at all).

The most impressive forward movement in Hot 100 history was achieved just over a year ago when Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie’s “Me!” vaulted from No. 100, where it started its journey, to No. 2, where it stalled, failing to become another leader for Swift and the first for the Panic! at the Disco frontman.

The second-greatest lift up the Hot 100 belongs to Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You,” which went from No. 97 to No. 1 back in 2009. The year before that, Britney Spears’ “Womanizer” blasted from No. 96 to the top spot.

The only other two tracks to climb at least 90 spaces from one week to another are Beyoncé and Shakira’s “Beautiful Liar” (91 spots) and Maroon 5 and Cardi B’s “Girls Like You” (90 spots).

“Therefore I Am” was released on a Thursday with hours left in a tracking week, and it earned enough streams and sales to become one of the 100 most-consumed cuts in the country that frame. Then, after a full tracking period had passed, Eilish’s latest fan favorite had improved in every sense, and now it stands as one of the biggest hit singles in the U.S.
