Down from festive highs, auto sales up from November 2019 – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Car and two-wheeler sales took a breather from the highs of festive months, but still managed a decent run in November when compared to the sales achieved in the same month last year.
Except for Maruti Suzuki, that saw a 2% decline, most of the top manufacturers registered positive growth in wholesale deliveries, holding out hopes of a sustained customer demand.
Maruti Suzuki, that accounts for one out of every two cars sold in the country, managed to sell 1.35 lakh units in the month compared to 1.39 lakh units sold in November 2019. Company chairman R C Bhargava has said that sales are expected to remain positive till the end of this year, while sounding cautious about prospects in 2021.

While Maruti had a minor decline, the going was strong for other carmakers, even as some of them had a decline if numbers were analysed sequentially (month-on-month).
Market analysts said sales this November are higher (y-o-y) because of a weak base in November last year. Diwali was in October last year and wholesale deliveries in November were not that strong. This year, Diwali was in November and companies continued to stock up dealerships.
Two-wheeler manufacturers witnessed positive growth rates, when compared to the last year. Hero Moto was up 14%, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India by 11%, TVS by 30%, and Royal Enfield by 1%.
