5 Common Workplace Issues That All Employees Should be Aware Of

At some point every workplace will be involved in a conflict, the question is whether it will involve you or a colleague. Regardless of who is involved, it is important that you are aware of the most common workplace issues and what you should do about them.

1. Taking The Right Action

Whenever there is an issue at work the logical first step is to talk to your direct supervisor about the issue. If they are part of the problem, you are not comfortable speaking to them, or this achieves nothing then you need to head to the HR department.

If you don’t have one or that doesn’t help you will need to speak to the boss and it will be worth talking to an unfair dismissal employment lawyer, even if your job is not yet at risk.

One thing is certain, it is always best to confront the issue and al with it, one way or the other. If you don’t, it will fester and cause further issues in the future.

2. Favoritism

It is not unusual for an employer to favor one employee over another. In this instance one employee will never put a foot wrong, the other will never get it right. IT can be hard to overcome this but getting to know the employer better can help.

3. Bullying

It may surprise you but bullying appears in all walks of life. Bullying comes in a wide variety of formats, ranging from being deliberately excluded from events to simply being asked to do everything, regardless of whether you have the time to do it or not.

You may also find you are unfairly criticized for everything you do.

If this is the case then you need to document every incident. Once you have a log showing several occasions you can take it to the HR or the next person up the line of command.

4. Bosses That Don’t Care

There are plenty of bosses that care only about the profit or how well they are perceived by those they report to. They will be extremely demanding of your time and are unlikely to appreciate you, how hard you work, and may even criticize you regularly.

You’ll need to pre-empt their issues and have solutions ready. You can also talk to them about respect.

5. Know Your Rights

It can be intimidating thinking about talking to your boss or their boss. After all, you probably would like to keep your job. However, you should be aware that there are laws protecting you and your rights at work. Your unfair dismissal lawyer can help guide you through these, ensuring you behave in an appropriate way and build a solid case if the worst were to happen.

You can’t let a fear of the consequences stop you from taking action. By speaking to a lawyer you know you are behaving correctly and, when everything is resolved, you will be much happier in your chosen workplace.
