Which BTS Member Is The Most Prolific On Their Own?

After teasing fans with a mention here and a picture there for what felt like forever to die hard followers, BTS member Suga finally delivered the goods this past Friday (May 22) with his new mixtape. D-2, released under the musician’s alter ego Agust D, arrived with very little warning, and it quickly went to No. 1 on iTunes charts all around the world and the songs featured on the project also made a massive impact right off the bat.

While BTS are busy working on their next album (something they mentioned just a few weeks ago, despite the fact that their most recent collection is only a few months old), Suga found time to complete his latest solo project, proving he is one of the most prolific members of the septet…but is he the most prolific?

Looking solely at complete projects, Suga is now tied with fellow BTS superstar RM as the most prolific, as the two have released two mixtapes apiece.

RM was the first member of the group to go solo, which he managed over five years ago. The musician dropped his first project on his own, the simply-titled RM, back in 2015, and while it didn’t make much of a commercial impact in the United States (outside of the World Albums list, where it only reached No. 12), it did help establish him as a standout in the crowd. He followed that up in 2018 with Mono, which was a huge win in the U.S. The set peaked at No. 26 on the Billboard 200, making him the first of the seven to reach the tally on his own.

Suga was the second of the seven BTS vocalists to produce a full project without his bandmates. His solo effort Agust D (a self-titled record, as he used that moniker instead of Suga) came out in 2016, and it reached a handful of Billboard charts, but not the main list of the most consumed albums. Now he’s become just the second member to give fans another full-length, and there’s no telling how well D-2 could perform after its first seven days of availability.

The only other member of BTS to go solo and release an album (or mixtape, as they have chosen to call their titles) is J-Hope, whose own Hope World came out in 2018 and went to No. 1 on the World Albums chart and broke into the top 40 on the Billboard 200, a very impressive feat for Korean soloists. 

So far, more than half of the members of BTS—Jin, Jimin, V and Jungkook—have yet to release any full-lengths on their own, though they may at any time, at which point they will likely enjoy immediate success, as now that they are all superstars in America, anything they share should perform well upon arrival.
